DIY Nerf Battlefield

The vastness and creativeness of the battlefield influences the amount of time kids will play Nerf Wars. If you want your Nerf Party to be a success, your job is to make kids feel like they're in actual combat when they step into a nerf battlefield. A battlefield with various inflatable barriers will enthrall kids that they'll get sucked into playing Nerf Wars like they're in real combat. With the ultimate battlefield, you won't have a problem with kids being bored, but you just might have trouble with stopping your kid and his/her friends when it's time to end the party.

Here's a list of inflatables that we personally use in our Nerf Parties and the pros and cons of each.

Battle Bunkers Inflatable Barriers

The bunkers used above are small inflatable barriers that come in 4 styles:

  • Oversized Box
  • Jumbo Tire
  • Oversized Army Container
  • Mini Oil Barrel

  • Pros of these barriers:
  • They're lightweight and kids can move them around easily to reconstruct new bases
  • They're stackable which lets kids get creative with building their bases
  • They inflate quickly with an electric air pump
  • Kids love jumping on them

  • Cons of these barriers:
  • You have to put water in them to resist barriers falling one by one and flying away from breezes
  • They can easily puncture when kids get aggresive with them and objects with protruding features such as rocks are around
  • Industry Grade Paintball Bunkers

These bunkers are huge, provide coverage for more than 1 kid, and really turns a nerf battlefield into a combat zone.
    Pros of these barriers:

  • They're effective, which is why they're the main barriers of any combat sport involving guns such as paintball and airsoft
  • These bunkers are huge so you won't need more than 1 per a group of 5 as long as you have a few mini battle bunkers spread across the battlefield
  • Setting them up is easy. All you need is an electric air pump and weight or metal stakes to ensure they stand still

  • Cons of these barriers:
  • They're costly.

  • From our experience, we found that these two inflatables are the best equipment for the ultimate DIY Nerf battlefield

    Best Nerf Guns

The type of Nerf Guns used in a Nerf Wars affects the Nerf Party. It's crucial that you use the right type of guns for the right age group to keep kids engaged. There are 3 types that appeal to different age groups.

    Nerf Rivals (Ages 12+)

Nerf Rivals are a line of high-performance Nerf Guns that shoot compact, foam balls up to a velocity of 105 feet per second and leave a sting on impact. They also require a bit of force to reload and shoot so anyone under 12 will have trouble using these blasters.

  • Nerf Rival Prometheus MXVIII-20K - The mother of them all. A fully motorized Nerf blaster that holds up to 200 rounds and fires 8 rounds per second.
  • Nerf Rival Phantom Corps Hades XVIII-6000 - Our favorite Nerf Rival that we use in our Nerf War Parties. Shotgun based reload system with an easy load hopper that can hold 60 rounds.
  • Nerf Rival Roundhouse XX-1500 - Lightweight pistol shaped Nerf Rival with a clear rotating chamber that holds up to 15 rounds.
  • Nerf Rival Phantom Corps Helios XVIII-700 - The classic Nerf Rival that's looks something between a pistol and an assault rifle that uses a magazine to unleash rounds of ammo. Although each magazine holds 7, you can purchase additional magazines to unleash a ton of rounds without the need to reload.
  • Nerf Rival Rounds for Cheap - These offbrand Nerf Rival Rounds work just as fine as the rounds from Hasbro and cost a lot less.
  • Nerf Megas (Ages 9+)

These Nerf Guns shoot oversized nerf darts that whistle as they fly through the air and leave a little sting on impact. Kids love using these because the HUGE darts actually incentivizes kids to try to not get shot and makes them take the Nerf War games seriously which makes the games more fun for everyone.

  • Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega Cyclone Shock Blaster - Pistol with a rotating drum that fires up to 6 rounds (the most practical nerf mega blaster).
  • Nerf Fortnite TS-1 Blaster - Fortnite themed Nerf Mega blaster with pump action blasting.
  • Nerf N-Strike Mega Series Roto Fury Blaster - Pump action Nerf Mega with a rotating barrel that holds 10 rounds.
  • Nerf N-Strike Elite DoubleBreach Blaster - Pump action shotgun shaped Nerf Mega that holds 2 rounds.
  • Nerf Centurion Mega - A really cool looking Nerf Mega that's not the most practical blaster for a Nerf War.
  • Nerf N-Strike Mega Mega Mastodon - Motorized Nerf Mega with a rotating barrel that holds up to 24 darts.
  • Nerf Accustrike Mega Bulldog - A recommended Nerf Mega for Nerf Wars because it's lightweight. Holds up to 3 rounds and uses pull-back action.
  • Thunderhawk Nerf AccuStrike Mega - A Nerf Mega that has legs that be used to shoot darts like a mortar.
  • Nerf Mega Darts for Cheap - These offbrand Nerf Mega Darts work just as fine as thee darts from Hasbro and cost far less.
  • Classic Nerf Guns (Ages 6+)

Classic Nerf Guns really work well for anyone and is the most suitable type of Nerf Guns for the younger kids. Since there's a ton of Nerf Guns, we've listed only the most popular Nerf Guns that kids have brought to our Nerf Parties.

  • Nerf Fortnite AR-L Elite - Fortnite inspired Nerf Gun.
  • Nerf N-Strike Elite Delta Trooper - Customizable Nerf Gun that appeals a lot to kids because it looks cool and has internal customizable feature to change its looks.
  • Nerf Revoltinator Zombie Strike - Zombie themed motorized Nerf Gun with shock lights and sounds that can shoot 18 darts in a row.
  • Nerf Elite Titan CS-50 - Fully motorized blaster with a 50 dart drum and shoulder strap for total domination.
  • Nerf Modulus Regulator - Motorized blaster with a scope and 3 different fire modes (slow fire, normal, and rapid fire).
  • Nerf Darts for Cheap - These offbrand Nerf darts work just as fine as the branded darts and cost far less.
  • Nerf War Accessories

Here are a few accessories that we came across as extremely useful for Nerf Wars.

  • Smoke Grenades. Kids go crazy when they're able to release clouds of colorful smoke that turn the battlefield into a haze and temporarily obscures visibility.
  • Face Masks or Goggles to prevent eye injury. Masks made by Nerf may look cool but they're extremely hard to breathe through so they're not practical. We recommend goggles that come as a set with 2 different colors which is useful to segment kids into 2 teams.
  • Vest kit for kids to carry additional ammo on them
  • Targets to be used in games and for kids to have fun while target practicing before the games

    Nerf Party Games

All the party games requires teams to stand on opposing sides.

  • Nerf Wars - Place a smoke bomb inside a bag and lock it with a lock that doesn't require a key for people to unlock. Place the bag in the middle and tell players that it can't leave that position. The offensive team's goal is try to get the smoke bomb outside of the bag and activate the smoke bomb and leave it in that position. If the offensive team successfully does this, the defensive team has a chance to redeem themselves, after the smoke runs out, by placing the smoke bomb inside the bag and locking the bag. (The defensive team has 50 seconds for this). Players who get hit in this game respawn by going back to their base and touching their flag.
  • Team Deathmatch - Each player has 1 life and leaves the round once they get hit. Team with the last man standing wins
  • Capture the Flag - Same rules as the normal version but with Nerf Guns.
  • Medic – Each team has a medic who can be equipped with a Nerf Gun and serves to heal other players of their team. Medics can have 1-3 lives, up to you. Game ends when a team gets the opponent's medic.Players who are not the medic must sit down and raise their hands after they’ve been hit.Medic can revive players but must be next to them for 5 seconds.
  • Hit Squad - The offensive team is provided all the foam targets. Their objective is to take each one and place them next to the defensive team's flags. There should be at least 3 flags on the defending team's side to make it possible for the offensive team to win. Players on the offensive who get shot return back to their base and reset whereas players on the defending team count to 10 then reset. Rounds last 10 minutes.
